Please consider this is as a work-in-progress proof of concept as long as it's in the draft mode.
I'd like to refine it as needed to deliver the final patch for careful consideration and decision whether we want it in or not.
I don't see a different approach to solving this that is equally or more optimal in terms of trade-offs, which is why I decided to start working on a patch quickly (the case seems really simple). If there's any alternative approach that I've missed, please let me know.
